Location & Activities

Dolceacqua is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in the Italian province of Liguria. It is placed along the river "Nervia" which divides the oldest part of the village (the medieval area with the "Doria Castle") from the more modern part (built in the 19th and 20th century). The two parts of the village are connected by a spectacular elegant stone bridge (built in 15th century). The famous French artist Claude Monet painted the bridge in 1884, which he named ‘A Jewel of Lightness’.

The main square in the heart of the village looks out over the bridge and castle and locates several traditional Italian restaurants & coffee bars, where you can enjoy a glass of wine, the Italian cuisine or a real espresso. There are weekly markets with food, household items and clothing. In the old castle, on top of the village, there are regularly scheduled concerts and exhibitions.

Dolceacqua is situated approximately 8 kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea side in the Italian Riviera where you will find cities such as San Remo, Bordighera and Ventimiglia. In these cities you will find interesting architecture, shops, restaurants and weekly markets as well as beaches and harbours. The Villa is also close to Menton, Monte Carlo and Nice and the French Riviera beach resorts within 30 to 60 minutes.

In the surrounding area you will find nice villages, green mountains and many rivers and waterfalls, such as Rocchetta, where you can swim in the pool under the waterfall or enjoy some nice family-owned restaurants. At the beach of Vallecrosia and Bordighera you will find very nice and affordable restaurants and places where you can rent beach chairs.

In the area you can do all kinds of recreation like swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and playing golf. In winter season you can do skiing in Limone Piemonte al Liguria, which is 60 km away from Dolceacqua.

The Villa is one-hour drive from Nice Airport. From Amsterdam it is approx. 1350 km, from Paris it is approx. 850 km and from Munich it is approx. 650 km.
